Indian Head Massage has been used for thousands of years to remove negative energy and aid healing. This ancient art has been adapted to help treat the stresses and strains of modern-day life. It is a safe, simple, and effective therapy that uses a series of massage strokes to treat the areas most vulnerable to stress – namely the upper back, shoulders, head, and neck.

LESSON 4

  • Research why it is important to behave in a professional manner as a therapist – what is the specific behaviour, why is it important, what would happen if you breach professional standards?
  • Research the specific health & safety regulations surrounding complementary therapies and why are they important?

  • Discussion on communication skills, from the first contact with a client, through the consultation process, and booking a return visit

LESSON 5

  • Research ways in which IHM may need to be adapted such as time constraints, oil/no oil preferences of the client, longer spent on one area, an area missed out altogether (client preference), or a wheelchair user
  • Pre-read what ‘contra-indications’ mean and what they are.  Why are they important to know?

Pre Requisites:

This is suitable for complete beginners. You will need a computer/laptop with a webcam for Zoom lessons
a way of recording the routine to submit for feedback (phone etc)
access to a computer to complete homework & assignments
a head to practice on!

E-Learning:

Pre-reading / self-research to be completed prior to Zoom lesson
Online support via a 1-hour lesson via Zoom per week
On-going support via Whatsapp or email for the duration of the course and beyond

Self-Learning:

Homework – completing a workbook
Practising the routine (done in parts) at home, recording it and sending it in for feedback

Face-To-Face Learning / Guidance:

Two days of face-to-face learning in the classroom. Your workbook will need to be completed by this time.

Day 1 will be refining the routine and building confidence working on clients brought in from outside. This allows for more practical work, rather than working on each other. Day 2 will include assessment
