I had a phone consultation with Louise initially to enquire about courses. Louise was so informative and gave me not only advise about the course but some valuable mentoring regarding me business. She was incredibly generous with her time and the suggestions she made were really helpful and prompted me to tackle things I had been avoiding! In regards to the training, Michelle has a unique training style and leaves no stone unturned. She is incredibly patient and has even contacted me following the course to make sure that I went away with full understanding of techniques. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience and is happy to answer questions even if unrelated to the course. The training centre is also very spacious and comfortable to work in. Thankyou Phoenix team!

I had no knowledge of chakras before commencing the course, but that did not hinder me at all, Michelle is an excellent teacher, very patient and generous with her knowledge. I am looking forward to adding this to my treatments.

I attended the first Reflexology to support those living with cancer and other life-limiting conditions. WOW! What a very thought provoking course. Very well put together, both online and hands on. I feel I have gained fantastic skills and knowledge to be able to offer this kind of treatment. It's such a soothing, caring and nurturing treatment, which I feel very privileged to be able to offer my clients. Thank you Phoenix, another wonderful course!

I love reflexology and have wanted to learn for many years. Over the past year Phoenix has helped me on this journey, with lots of help, support and laughs along the way. I felt as though I was part of a family and have met some lovely like minded therapists. I’m looking forward to learning other complementary therapies in the near future x. Thank you Louise & Michelle xxx

Just completed the 2 day Mian Dui CPD - it was FAB!!!! I really enjoyed it, gobsmacked how much we learned in a small time window and loved how it made me feel. Really perked me up, motivated me and excited me. My first Mian Dui treatment is booked in for next week - very excited! I did my reflexology training at Phoenix too and would highly recommend them - professional, knowledgeable, warm and supportive. Thanks again to Louise and Michelle!

Choosing to train with Phoenix is one of the best decisions I have made. Louise and Michelle are so knowledgeable, professional and so supportive. I have found the thought of learning new skills quite overwhelming however Phoenix are with me every step of the way. The course materials, practical training and e-learning platforms are high quality and help you learn and navigate the training smoothly. I highly recommend Phoenix.

Hi, I’m Louise Searles, Founder and Training Director

I started my career in 1986 (yes, I am that old!) after completing a 3 year hair, beauty & wigmaking (very) full-time course at Havering College of Further & Higher Education.  After a few years of working in a department store and hotel salons in Romford, Reading & Cornwall, I returned to Chelmsford to set up my first business within David John Hairdressing in Moulsham Street.  After a couple of years, I decided I needed a new challenge and returned to college to undertake the Certificate in Education, where I realised I had found my true vocation.  I had the most fabulous manager who nurtured and developed my interest in quality and curriculum design, enabling me to become an examiner for City & Guilds and then Verifier and Regional Lead Verifier for Hair & Beauty London & South East.

After returning to work after my second son was born in 1998, I realised that it was time to move on.  I was incredibly grateful for all that I had achieved, however, I believed that there was a different way to deliver therapy training to adults, and I wanted to prove it was possible. So leaving the security of employment, I set about creating Phoenix School of Health & Beauty which opened its doors at Marconi Social Club in Beehive Lane in July 2001.

I am a very fortunate girl to have parents who were invested in the process.  It wasn’t the first time mum and dad had helped me create the salon.  Mum and I found the furnishings whilst dad did all the internals.  This time, dad stepped in again and build walls, cupboards, added electrics and plumbing – not bad for a Bank of England accounts officer!

I wanted to keep the training small, so opted for groups of 8 learners and recruited Sue Garnett from Colchester institute to help me build the programmes. Sue was ‘old school’, as was I, and we had complete agreement on how things should be done. One of the things we established very early on, was the ‘First Steps Treatment Studio’ – the opportunity for newly qualified therapists to go to work in a supported environment whilst they gained confidence and speed and worked out how they wanted to progress their career.

We offered beauty and holistic therapies to start with, quickly growing, recruiting two more subject specialists, and adding nail technology and reflexology to our offering. By 2005, we had outgrown the space we started with and persuaded the manager to move from his office and even had a portacabin as extra training space!  Eventually in 2006, we conceded that to develop our potential, we needed to move. Baddow Park became our new home after months of creation and we absolutely loved the beautiful venue.  It definitely had its difficulties with snow and access for those who didn’t drive, however, we arranged taxis and lift shares and it was never a problem.

The organisation has been recognised three times by two of the biggest leaders of post 16 Educational Establishments for our contribution to education and lifelong learning, winning awards in 2004, 2005 and 2010. You can be sure that your future is our priority; we offer you more than a qualification, it is a complete learning experience.

You will be taught in small classes with specialised tuition in all aspects of the industry, from client consultation through to treatment management.  With work experience opportunities throughout your training,  you can  develop confidence and skills for as long as you need to. This will help make you one of the most competent therapists within our industry.

Insurable diplomas and certificates just will not suffice in this competitive and increasingly demanding industry – you want the best qualifications, so we offer you City & Guilds qualifications which are renowned worldwide for their rigour and consistency.

You will be taught by specialist educators, helping you to become the best you can be.

When you enrol at Phoenix you will be forever part of the Phoenix Family, and welcome to continue to attend training sessions for as long as you need.

I joke that you have to divorce us to get away!

They work with over 10,000 centres worldwide and almost 2 million individuals trustCity & Guilds with their futures every year.

With these beauty therapy qualifications, you will gain the skills you need to be a successful Beauty Therapist, Make-Up Artist or Nail Technician in a salon or spa.

You will develop essential skills like customer service and health and safety skills, and will learn to work well in the salon environment.

There are also short qualifications covering one particular skill – things like stone therapy or applying artificial nails.

The Beauty Therapy qualifications are for anyone interested in starting or advancing a beauty therapy career.

You do not need to be working in the industry already. There are options to suit experienced technicians and people with no previous experience. You may be a young learner or an adult.

The qualification is delivered by learning through practice on each other to start with, quickly moving on to real paying clients.  You will become confident and experienced in dealing with realistic working practices which employers are looking for.

The qualification is assessed through practical and theory assessments. In preparation for these final assessments there is directed independent study required which will take approximately 4-5 hours per week.

The practical assessment is only completed once you feel really confident and have completed a certain number of treatments, received feedback and have developed the skills required. The practical assessment is graded: Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Each course that we offer is a qualification in its own right which will ensure that any insurance company will recognise it and will allow you membership of any professional association.

As we train adults, we recognise that you come with life skills that don’t need to be re-taught, just utilised within each area of learning.  The industry is so diverse that qualifications cannot always keep up, so we will work with you to create your own Individual Learning Plan (ILP).  Rather than look at a full Diploma program, we help you create a learning plan which ensures you spend the time learning the skills you need to build a business or gain employment

Phoenix also offers bespoke training to allow a cost effective route to a regulated qualification.  You wont have to go back to the beginning if you have skills and knowledge that we can build upon.
